Baby Bird Care
Instructions for the feeding of baby birds:
Due to stress from travel, new home/family and new surroundings, they might regress a bit, to make the transition easier, I recommend to hand feed him 3 times a day for the first 2 days, then cut back to 2 hand feedings (morning and night). When he is eating more solid foods on his own, you may cut back to night feeding only until weaned and get acclimated to his new home and family. Keep him warm and give lots of TLC. If he needs more he will cry when hungry.
Heat 1/3 cup water (bottled) in the microwave for 30 seconds; add 2 tbsp of the powder formula, mix well to a consistency of a runny applesauce. make sure that the temperature is between 105 to 110 F (too hot will cause crop burns) Too cold and he will refuse to eat. Use a syringe or spoon or a small paper cup to feed him/her. Hold and guide his head upwards for easier feeding. he will take up to 40 to 50 ml. Throw away any mixed formula left over (do not re-use again, it arbors bacteria fast and causes intestinal virus) Wash the feeding utensils well, need to sanitize them every after feeding.
I use Roudy Bush pellets, daily maint-small, cheerios, chopped up (1/4") apples, grapes, carrots, corn, peas, broccoli, and whatever you can think of. He eats 1 to 2 tbsp of the mixture. I give the fresh mixture early in the morning everyday.
